The Mission of the Seiad Fire Safe Council is to protect and preserve our natural and man-made resources through cooperation, education and mobilization of local citizens to make our homes, neighborhoods and community more fire safe. Implementing and monitoring an ecologically sound and sustainable fire regime primarily through strategic fuel reduction, vegetation management, and cooperation with other organizations, agencies and volunteers is the heart of the mission."
The gross planning area for the SFSC extends from Seattle Creek (the approximate western edge of the Thompson Creek Community) on the west to Kuntz creek on the east, and from Salt Creek on the south to Panther Gulch on the north. This large area covers not only the Seiad Valley community proper, but also the outlying parcels of private land and residences that are within the SVVFD area of responsibility.
The Seiad Fire Safe Council came in to existence during December of 2002 as a result of a series of community meetings. Assistance from the Klamath National Forest and other Fire Safe Councils during the formation was a key factor.
Grant Update, April 2008:
The Seiad Fire Safe Council is pleased to announce the funding of the Seiad Creek Road Shaded Fuel Break.
This important project will provide a critical 200' wide shaded fuel break to protect the community from the devestating effects of wildland fire.
