Project Name: Scott Bar Community Protection Fuel Break

Status: Funded

Project Description

A shaded fuel break will be established 200 feet wide and 4,626 feet long (21 acres) on National Forest lands located adjacent to private lands, which will protect the community of Scott Bar and National Forest land values.

Identified in the Scott Bar Wildfire Protection Plan as the highest priority need with the greatest immediate impact, this project will protect critical infrastructure, private property and valuable national forestlands. This 200 ft. wide shaded fuel break located on public lands is adjacent to the community of Scott Bar. The project area contains a 10,000 gallon community water supply tank, a 10,000 gallon Forest Service water tank, National Forest timber lands, the Wild and Scenic Scott River watershed, a historic community meeting hall, U.S. Post Office building and the Scott Bar U.S.F.S. Fire Station. Trees will be limbed to a height of 8 feet, spacing will be 16 to 20 feet and brush cut. The project will involve treating a total of 21 acres.
