Access road within scope of project prior to treatment.
Project Name: Lower Scott River Access Roads Shaded Fuel Break Project
Status: Partially Funded for (100 Acres)
This project is proposed by the Lower Scott River Road Fire Safe Council (FSC) in order to treat 200 acres of dense vegetation along 9.7 miles of road. Total treatment area is based on field verification. Fuel reduction would be accomplished on one or both sides of roads (this has already been determined in the field and is accounted for in the total treatment calculation), to a distance of 100 feet on either side of the road.
The FSC developed a risk matrix in order to set priorities amongst the 10 access roads identified in the project. Treatment would result in creation of shaded fuel breaks along roads that access residences in the FSC area. This project is the second highest priority project identified by the FSC during its initial of phase of project planning.
We define “access road” as a road, or segment of road, that serves one or more residences. In order of priority (high to low), the access roads are:
Priority 1) Scott Bar Lookout Road (63.5 acres)
Priority 2) Patterson Creek Road and Meamber Creek Road (61.6 acres)
Priority 3) Wilderness Road, Hagemeyer Property Line Road, and Boulder Creek Road (33.2acres)
Priority 4) Oak View Lane and Indian Scotty Road (12.8 acres)
Priority 5) Graveyard Gulch Road and 44N41C/44N24B Roads (28 acres).
These priorities were established by assigning a Risk Ranking for each of the following 5 risk criteria: The project would thin and remove vegetation less than 10” diameter at breast height to provide 20-foot spacing between trees. Leave trees would be limbed to a minimum of 8 to 12 feet above the ground. Leave trees immediately adjacent to roads would be limbed to a minimum of 15 feet above the ground. Multi-stem sprouts would be reduced to 2 stems. Treated fuels would be piled and burned or chipped.
